The fragrance of a flower spreads immediately when it comes to the ground. In the same way captain for Indian women’s international cricket team, Mithali Raj started spreading her fragrance when she was young. She along with her elder brother used to play cricket with other male cricketers in her childhood. She started coaching her schoolmates and practiced at school along with her studies.

Mithali Raj is a right-handed batswoman and also right-arm leg break bowler. Her dedication and hard work got her recognition.

Mithali Raj inspired by her father, Dorai Raj who was an Indian Air Force officer who the one is having a goal to serve the nation.


Mithali’s passion towards the cricket made her select for the Indian team at an early age of 17. At inception, she was not selected by the squad for Women’s Cricket World Cup. But she actively participated in the national wide competitions and proved herself. In the year 2002, she led the Indian Woman Cricket Team in the World Cup. She proved herself in the International Test Debut against South Africa and broke the record with 209 runs.

She was the recipient of many awards ‘Arjuna Award’ in the year 2003, for her outstanding performance in sports. In the year 2015, she received the fourth highest civilian award ‘Padma Shri’.

Along with her awards, she was ranked as No. 1 Cricketer in the ODI for women and she was the second person to achieve 5000 runs in women’s ODI cricket. She is nicknamed as “Tendulkar of Women’s Indian Cricket Team.”
